THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
OFFICE OF THE AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND AREA PRESIDENCY
November 11 1998
Brother Simon G. Southerton
10 Stavewood Court
Samford QLD 4520
Dear Brother Southerton:
Thanks so much for your letter. Apparently I was misinformed, and
I humbly apologise if any offence was given by the remarks in my previous letter. What we do want to make certain of is that you maintain your status in the Church, that you carry a temple recommend, and that you remain worthy for future calls which may come to you.
The information which I shared with you had come to me from others, and if it was inaccurate please forgive me. Do understand that we care a great deal about you or we would not have taken time to write the letter and, as stated previously, we do not want to lose the ‘shepherds’ which you have been, not only because they feel that their integrity would not let them continue to serve, as in your case, but if they think to leave the Church for any reason.
Again, please know that we do love you and are grateful for your present attitude. Be assured that there are witnesses far greater than the wisdom of men and science with all its wonders, and that is the absolute truths spoken of by President Spencer W. Kimball. And the absolute truth is that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Book of Mormon is true.
God bless you, your wife, and your family. We love and appreciate you.
